China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance Formed to Promote the Green and Zero Carbon Development of Shipping

On February 8, the China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance (CESIA) was formally established with the support of COSCO SHIPPING and COSCO SHIPPING Development. Leaders from more than 80 organizations attended the founding conference, including the Department of Infrastructure Development of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Waterborne Transport Administration of Ministry of Transport (MOT), Center for International Economic And Technological Cooperation of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (CIECT), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), Shanghai Municipal Economic and Informatization Commission (SHEITC), Shanghai Municipal Commission of Transportation (SHMCT), Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (SHMSA), Fujian Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Hubei Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, China Classification Society (CCS), COSCO SHIPPING, and members of CESIA, jointly witnessing the formation of another critical milestone in the development history of green shipping in China.

With the shared aspiration for creating a zero-carbon future, all members and organizations involved will work together to contribute to China’s national goal of achieving “peak carbon emission and carbon neutrality”.

At the conference, Deputy Director of Waterborne Transport Administration of MOT Mr. Yang Huaxiong, Director of Department of Infrastructure Development of NDRC Mr. Liu Zhirong, Head of ITPO (Shanghai) of UNIDO Ms. Zhao Xiaolei, Deputy Director of SHMCT Mr. Ye Xing, President of China Merchants Investment Development Co., Ltd. Mr. Zhang Rizhong, Chairman of CEEC (Shanghai) System Engineering Co., Ltd. Mr. Chen Jiaqing, and Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING Mr. Huang Xiaowen addressed the event; Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Development Mr. Liu Chong, Vice President of CCS Mr. Cai Yanxian, Vice President of China Waterborne Transport Research Institute of MOT Mr. Zhu Jianhua,, Vice President of CTHG Fund Mr. Tang Jianzhou, and Chairman of CALB Ms. Liu Jingyu delivered keynote speeches.

In his speech, Mr. Huang Xiaowen pointed out that low-carbon and zero-carbon transport is the only way to achieve sustainable development of global transportation. The formation of CESIA will be conducive to integrating the best resources across all links in the green shipping industry chain to jointly promote establishing industry standards for green and low-carbon ships. It will help to form a green shipping system, with electric ship engineering and construction and featured shipping industry as leading industriers, combined with the coordinated development of new energy infrastructure construction and other related supporting industries to better promote the implementation of China’s “dual carbon” strategy.

  

As a demonstration project of ship electrification, the electric ship project team briefed the participants on the technology adopted by 700TEU electric ships.

At the founding ceremony, the strategic partnership agreement of the Green Water Zero Carbon Project was also signed between four parties, including COSCO SHIPPING Development, China Merchants Capital, China Energy Engineering, and CTHG Fund.
