COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Oceania) Pty Ltd

Originally founded on October 1 (China's National Day) in 1980, Five Star Shipping was the first Sino-Australian Joint Venture company established in Australia - a partnership between COSCO and Burns Philp & Co Ltd. In January 1994, Five Star Shipping became a wholly-owned COSCO Group Company.

China Shipping (Australia) Agency Co. Pty. Ltd. (CSAA) was established in April 1999 with offices in Sydney, Melbourne Brisbane and Adelaide to act as an Agent for and On Behalf of CSCL Container Lines.

From the 6th June, 2016, as part of the global integration between COSCO and China Shipping, both agency brands came together in Australia, both representing the one Principal, COSCON.

As of the 1st September, 2016 the organisation has now been renamed COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Oceania) Pty Ltd and is the sole agent for COSCON in Australia.

By the end of April 2022, COSCO SHIPPING Lines owned and operated 403 container vessels with a total capacity of 2.2 million TEUs (COSCO SHIPPING Holdings owned and operated 511 container vessels with a total capacity of 3.0 million TEUs, ranking the 4th place in the world in terms of shipping capacity). COSCO SHIPPING Lines operates 403 international and domestic shipping routes, consisting of 264 international services (including international feeder services), 55 domestic services, 84 Yangtze River and Pearl River shipping services, having anchors in 570 ports covering 140 countries and regions worldwide.

This integration has enabled us to combine our quality resources, to achieve synergies and provide better customer service.

COSCO SHIPPING started its business in New Zealand as early as 1988. In 1991 our Regional office was set up in Auckland, with a branch office at Christchurch. The company currently has more than 40 employees, with more than 95% local employees.

COSCO SHIPPING, has established a trade bridge connecting China and New Zealand through professional and complete services. Chinese made products like furniture and home appliances are brought to New Zealand regularly, and an expanding flow of New Zealand made products like timber, wool, kiwi fruit, dairy products, meat products and seafood are introduced to China and the world. 

The company is presently operating 3 separate weekly container liner services, calling directly at Auckland, Lyttelton, Napier, Wellington, Tauranga in New Zealand. Of the three services, JKN service is the longest established service in New Zealand. Vessels are calling North Asia ports in Japan, Korea, China mainland and Hong Kong directly.  CNS service is provided to service Southern and Eastern markets in China. Transit time from Tauranga to Hong Kong are only 14 days with 18 days to Shanghai amongst the fastest in the market. 

NZS service is targeting the South East Asia market.  Cargo connections to most other parts of the world are available at the major hub ports of Singapore or Port Kelang with an efficient connection network.

It has chartering, operation, and financial departments. Main business management personnel were dispatched from COSCO Bulk, and are serving as representatives in Australia, so as to further explore the Australia and New Zealand market.

Oceania Container Services (OCS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cosco Shipping (Australia) Limited, is one of the most advanced container depot operators in Melbourne. The depot was established in Melbourne in 1999 to provide empty container services to container owners, including storage, repair, operation, transportation, upgrade, etc. In 2017, the company was officially registered and operated independently.

Our yard is located at 28 Jones Road, Brooklyn, 9 KM to DP WORLD Terminal, 9.5 KM to Patrick Terminal and 10 KM to VICT Terminal. Excellent geographical location to transport companies to bring shorter shipping time. 70,033 square meters sealed concrete area with a capacity of 8,500 TEU. It also includes 2,750 square meters of dedicated heavy container disassembly space and 1,000 square meters of workshop.
